Magna International committed Monday to expanding its Spartanburg County manufacturing plant and its local workforce.

Magna, one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers, announced Monday it would expand its Moore facility, adding 25,000 square feet in new shipping bay space to better handle increased customer demand. The $8 million expansion is expected to create 130 new jobs.

"We are extremely pleased that Magna International is already expanding its operations here in Spartanburg County to accommodate increased customer volumes,” said David Britt, Spartanburg County Economic Development Committee chairman and Economic Futures Group board member. “As a global manufacturer, Magna's decision to expand demonstrates the continued opportunity for existing industries to grow here.”

Magna, based in Canada, supplies seats to BMW Group at its Spartanburg County facility.

“We have a strong leadership team and a highly-skilled workforce who are dedicated to world-class manufacturing and have a clear mission: to be the premier seat supplier to our customers here in South Carolina and around the world,” said Magna Seating Vice President of Operations Burge Young.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to this project.

Hiring for new positions is set to begin later this year. Interested applicants should visit the company's careers page online or readySC's website.
