EMERGE Family Therapy awarded $5,000 from Spartanburg Regional Foundation

EMERGE FTC was awarded $5,000 to support the Open Door program, which increases access to mental health services for underserved populations.
Annually, Spartanburg Regional Foundation awards grant money in their continued effort to improve the health and wellness of our community. This year, $594,000 was awarded to local nonprofits and healthcare system programs for health initiatives.
In the U.S., one in five adults have a mental health condition. More significantly, South Carolina is nationally ranked 50th for access to mental health services (MHA, 2018). Spartanburg County has been declared a Mental Health Professional Shortage Area (SCIP, 2016).
“Every day we are striving to change these statistics,” said PJ McEnroe, Executive Director of EMERGE. “We at EMERGE are grateful for the support of Spartanburg Regional Foundation; their values parallel our efforts to provide quality, affordable counseling, and strengthen our community.”
Last year, EMERGE provided 10,967 therapy hours while serving 3,072 clients. These figures translate to $317,082 worth of professional services donated to the community. EMERGE offers a sliding fee scale, making mental health care services more accessible to 47% of our clientele, who are at or below the federal poverty line.
