Spartanburg Academic Movement (SAM) and Movement 2030 are excited to announce the launch of Big Mo — a groundbreaking new program designed to support every senior across Spartanburg County’s nine public high schools as they plan for life after graduation.
This year, Big Mo will connect more than 3,000 seniors with the resources, reminders, and support they need to take their next step - whether that’s college or a high-level certification. Students who attend one of three partner institutions (USC Upstate, Spartanburg Community College, or Spartanburg Methodist College) will also be eligible for direct financial support.
What Big Mo Offers Students:
-
Help with FAFSA and financial aid applications
-
Reminders about application deadlines
-
Guidance on college, degree, and career options
-
Access to community-based resources and support
-
Direct tuition and fee support for partner colleges
“Big Mo is more than a program for students - it’s an investment in Spartanburg’s future,” said Dr. Russell Booker, CEO of Spartanburg Academic Movement. “By helping every student take their next step after high school, we’re strengthening our workforce, building healthier families, and laying the foundation for a stronger community.”
Guidance counselors will also have access to a powerful new Big Mo dashboard - a tool that allows them and Big Mo staff to track each student’s milestones and send reminders directly by text message. With this personalized support, no student falls through the cracks.
Big Mo is starting with high school seniors this year and will expand in the coming years to reach younger students as early as 8th grade, helping them build a customized roadmap to success.
